What is a Pay-What-You-Can Restaurant?
Love Café is a pay-what-you-can community restaurant. There are no set prices. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a delicious, well-prepared meal regardless of their ability to pay.
Do I need to make a reservation?
Reservations help us manage our small space and ensure a great experience for everyone. Walk-ins are welcome, and we’ll create a reservation for you when you arrive if a table is available. Guests with reservations will be given priority seating.
Is the food really free?
Not exactly. You choose what you’re able to give. Some guests pay more to help others, and some pay less—or nothing at all. Every contribution matters, and everyone is welcome. How do I pay for my meal? You can pay using cash, card, or mobile payment. There are no fixed or recommended prices—just generosity. Instructions will come with the check at the end of your meal.
What if I can’t pay anything today?
That’s okay. Everyone deserves a warm, nutritious meal. If you’re unable to pay, a member of our team may invite you to learn about volunteer opportunities or Love INC services. There’s no pressure—just an invitation to be part of something meaningful.
Can I donate to help someone else eat?
Yes! Every act of generosity helps us serve our community with dignity and respect. Here are a few ways you can “pay it forward”:
- You can donate more than your meal cost.
- You can purchase a Meal Token, which operates like a gift card.
- You can become a Match & Serve Sponsor, matching a day’s sales up to a set amount.
- You can become a monthly donor.
Can I volunteer in exchange for a meal?
Yes. If you’re unable to pay, you’re welcome to give your time instead. Just talk to a staff member about volunteer opportunities available that day.

What kind of food do you serve?
We serve chef-prepared meals using wholesome, seasonal ingredients. Our menu rotates regularly, usually with each season. We focus on healthy, delicious foods.
Do you offer vegetarian or gluten-free options?
Yes! We try to offer options that meet most dietary needs. Ask our team for details when you arrive.
Is the food healthy or locally sourced?
We prioritize nutritious, fresh, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. We are grateful to have contributing gardens at some of our local churches!
Can I order carryout? Can I get a doggie bag?
Love Café is more than a meal—it’s a shared experience. For that reason, we don’t offer carryout or to-go containers. This helps prevent misuse and ensures we can focus on hospitality for our dine-in guests.
How is Love Café funded?
Love Café is funded through a blend of:

What is the job skills apprenticeship program?
Love Café offers hands-on training for individuals interested in culinary and hospitality careers. Our program includes mentorship, life skills, budgeting, teamwork, and nationally recognized certifications. It’s more than job training—it’s a pathway to transformation.
Is Love Café affiliated with a church?
Love Café is a program of Love INC of Muskegon County, a Christian nonprofit. While our work is rooted in Christian faith, we serve people from all backgrounds and beliefs. Love INC’s mission is to mobilize churches to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ — we help churches help people!
Can I rent the space or host an event?
Yes! Our space is available for community events outside of our regular hours. Contact us to discuss availability, rates, and guidelines.
How can I receive services from Love INC?
If you or someone you know needs help, call our office at (231) 773-3448 to schedule an appointment. We’re open Monday through Thursday, 8:30AM—4:00PM. Our office is located at 1051 Peck St, Muskegon, MI.
What if no one pays for their food?
If too few guests contribute, we won’t be able to continue. Generosity, grants, and sponsorships are vital. But if we’re overwhelmed by need and underwhelmed by giving, we’ll serve as many as we can for as long as we can. If that’s all the time we’re meant to have—so be it.
